Our Theological Advisor - Fr. Herbert Alphonso SJ

Fr. Herbert Alphonso SJ is the Theological Advisor for the Teachers Enterprise in Religious Education and The Way, the Truth & the Life Primary Series.  He is currently advising on the new editions of

• ‘The Way’ 11-12 year olds
• ‘The Truth’ 12- 13 year olds
• ‘The Life’ 13-14 year olds

In addition, he gives Conferences in Rome to teachers using ‘The Way, the Truth & the Life’ series.

Herbert Alphonso, an Indian Jesuit, was for 12 years Director of the Ignatian Spirituality Centre at Jesuit Headquarters in Rome.  From 1993 – 1999 he was Dean of the Institute of Spirituality of the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.  Currently, he is Emeritus Professor of Spiritual Theology and of Ignatian Spirituality in the same Institute.  He is missioned to the promotion of Ignatian Spirituality through the continuation of his ministry of the Spirit, through study and writing, courses, seminars and retreats.  For these he has been to Japan, Philippines, USA, South America, Canada, South Africa, Great Britain, Ireland and all over India.

Before being called to Rome in 1979, he was Director of Novices in Bombay, India; then, Rector and Professor of St. Mary’s College, the Jesuit theologate in Kurseong at the foot of the Himalayas; and later, Rector and Professor of Jnana-Deepa Vidyapeeth (Pontifical Athenaeum) in Pune, India.
